some information about debian and some oppinions from me
Debian is an operating system, well its named "the universal operating system". Its mainly a distribution of software which uses either the Linux kernel, some *BSD kernel or the Hurd kernel.
There is also a port of the Debian packaging tools to Mac OS X, which is named Fink.
