ikeyd - a hotkey daemon

This daemon is currently only for the special keys on Apple laptops. It uses /dev/input/event* to grab the keycode, and doesn't require X11 (like hotkeys does). Currently its main hotkey functions are:

  • muting the master volume
  • decreasing the master volume
  • increasing the master volume
  • ejecting the cdrom

For Debian users its quite easy since ikeyd is already in Debian. Simply 'apt-get install ikeyd' and you're done!

You can also download the source and try to compile it on any other distribution, but i've only tried it on debian.

Ikeyd is written by Stefan Pfetzing and released under GPL.

If you have found any bug, or if you are just using ikeyd and think its fine feel free to send me an email or look if you can find me on irc.openprojects.net #debianppc .

I also suggest to have a look at pbbuttonsd. Its more feature complete than ikeyd (but more complex too) and has support for the ambient light sensors in its latest version.
